Lone Mountain Wagyu has taken many steps to ensure that we continually look for new ways to be a more sustainable operation. One of the ways we have become more sustainable is by choosing other partners who share our vision for a greener earth.
We are proud to feature our fulfillment partner Crystal Creek Logistics – a wonderful company making great strides in sustainability practices through carbon offset programs, using renewable energy sources, reducing waste production and allowing employees to work remotely.
Carbon Neutral Shipping
In February, they launched a new program that is making an impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing complimentary carbon neutral shipping to their customers who use Crystal Creek’s carrier accounts. They are able to achieve this feat by purchasing certified carbon offset to balance emissions from the transportation and delivery of packages. This program supports other carbon-offset projects like Dry Creek Biofactory, La Pradera Landfill Gas and Garcia River Forest.
Powered 100% by Renewable Energy
Another fantastic way Crystal Creek has become the most sustainable fulfillment company in the country is by using 100% wind powered energy. Since January of 2015, they moved from carbon-intensive energy sources to purchasing Green-E certified renewable energy credits from wind power projects from around the country. They have also retrofitted their freezers to make them more energy efficient, as well as purchasing new energy-efficient freezers.
Crystal Creek is moving toward zero waste in all of three of their facilities. Their goal is to reduce waste sent to landfills by 80%. They are currently at 50% landfill reduction waste at their Ferndale facility and are looking to reduce waste and increase recycling at their Richmond and Hastings locations. One of the ways that they’ve reduced landfill waste is by providing proper disposal bins for food, recyclables, paper, and aluminum waste.
According to the EPA, driving vehicles releases many chemicals into the atmosphere that are directly related to climate change, health issues, acid rain, smog, pollution, etc. One of the benefits of working remotely is the savings that come out of not commuting to the office. Crystal Creek shows that some of their remote employees saved an average of 138 metric tons of CO2, 15 thousand gallons of gas and saved 328,000 miles. Supporting remote employee practices shows that these employees are much happier, and have much lower turnover rate than their office-bound counterparts. The reduction in commuting to the office, gave these employees an average of 2.5 weeks of free time per year!
We are very fortunate to be partnered with environmentally conscious companies like Crystal Creek Logistics.
