Why You Shouldn’t Cook Your Steak Well Done

Listen, if you have ever had your friends lecture you for ordering your steak well done, we’re sorry to tell you that they're right. If it were up to chefs, everyone would eat their steaks medium-rare. Before you exit, hear us out on why you shouldn't cook your steak well done. 

The Meat Gets Tough

Hey, we're not saying order a rare bleeding steak. But getting a medium steak will give you the best melt-in-your-mouth experience. Medium-rare steaks are the best to eat because the proteins haven't broken down, but the fat rendered gives them that perfect juicy flavor. Cooking your steak at a high temperature will make you feel like you're chewing on rubber roots! 

It's Dangerous To Eat Well-Done Steak

Why shouldn't you cook your steak well done? Because the difference between the risk of contaminants when comparing rare to medium-well steaks is insignificant. Cooking your steak at rare (135 degrees Fahrenheit) is enough to kill bacteria like E. coli or Salmonella. However, the high temperature it takes to cook your steak well done can cause a reaction that produces chemicals called heterocyclic amines (HCA). Studies show that people who eat well-done steak over a long period are more prone to bladder cancer. 

You Ruin the Quality of the Steak

There are various ways to prepare other cuts of meat. However, you should tend to steaks delicately on the stove or grill. Steak producers carefully cut steaks so that they get a charred effect when cooked. From raising the cattle with love to preparing your steak, the entire process is by design. 

You Don't Get Your Money's Worth

You may be paying for a top-notch steak, but you don’t get your money's worth if you cook it well done. When you eat your steaks well done, they often taste the same. In other words, you can't tell the difference in flavor and ruin the entire experience of tasting luxury meats.
